About Evenlode Studio
Evenlode Studio is owned and run by Richard Smith, a qualified model maker, craftsman and designer. Richard has experience in working for film and theatre as well as selling his own lines for the live-roleplay and re-enactment hobbies.
After training in model making at St Albans College of Art, Richard worked as a sculptor in the pewter industry for several years. He then worked on a variety of film projects as a freelancer and enjoyed a successful period as part of the model and prop making team at the Science Museum.
He moved on to set up Evenlode Studio in 2004. The company is based in a village in the Cotswolds where Richard lives with his wife and two children.
The company ethos is to use beautiful natural materials; leather, wood and hides to produce exquisite film quality leather armour, costume and props. We draw our inspiration from historical and mythical sources with the aim of creating an authentic feel in all our work. Even our fantasy designs aspire to have that could have been true element. All of our work is hand made by us in the UK.
We supply a range of our own designs but are also happy to take on bespoke commissions working with clients right through the design phase into manufacture. Theatrical work has included the armour for the 2009 Troilus and Cressida at Shakespeares Globe theatre, London and 2008 Julius Caesar at the Shakespeare Theatre, Washington DC.
